As magic makers, we would not feel complete without including the practice of Hoo Doo in our product lines. We coined our candles Motor City Hoo Doo because our roots are in the great city of Detroit. In the past, anyone wanting to make changes in their life would have to see a Root worker, conjurer or a hoodoo man. In modern times, and because we believe in empowering ourselves to create our own reality, Hoo Doo was a natural and easy way to demonstrate how magic is at the fingertips for all of us, if we choose.

Hoo Doo is from Africa and came to the United States through the slave trade. This folk practice allowed the people brought over from Africa to maintain some semblance of personal control in a life completely disassembled by the slave trade practices. Through the combination of herbs, minerals, “personal concerns”, readings from the bible, candle light, and contact with ancestors much could be accomplished to ensure safety, keep relationships connected and help heal maladies when no doctors or medicine was available.
